My Elantra X20 exhaust system upgrades!

I have to admit..the previous set-up was a disasters as shown below..on the right is sports silencer then follow by straight flow with built in reducer. The car don't produce much pick up and I have to accelerate harder. Worst it lost some torque whenever I drop my speed from 170km/hr then follow by acceleration..I have to give way to the rear car!

This set-up is ok for manual shift but not on automatic gearbox as its lack in back pressure.


So, I visited another exhaust shop at Danau Kota..F1 exhaust specialist. After much discussion..bla,bla,bla...the new set up was finalised.

2 pcs swirl flow bullet, this will create sufficient back pressure.

The old exhaust bellow and goose neck is too small only about 1.7inches as compare from the extractor which is 2 inches.


I replace with a new exhaust bellow and new stainless steal goose neck.



The old set-up was removed..but anyway I leave the std rear muffler. I plan to change it once I found a suitable and quite sports muffler..maybe a Remus!

The verdict.... I can feel allot of different both power and pick up...the joy of driving has return! The std rear muffler is giving more exhaust noise than before during acceleration and the air filter noise also has increase a little bit but its negligible.

Elantra X20 Power Upgrade


After the 1st dyno, I proceed with my plans to increase the power of the Elantra. This exhaust shop has been entrusted to do the modification. Its nearby N1 Racing Sunway.


Plenty of extractor for many models. Good workmanship!


Self was not alone doing it...there were other Elantra owner as well...



Out you go...but not discarded...Im keeping it.

After installation completed, I took a short drive...dammed..it feel so good. And after a couple of days driving...its does feel better. Engine noise has reduce alot, FC not much different and engine is super smooth...Will go for 2nd dyno...hope to touch 130hp.

My Dyno run and the extractor


I had dyno my Elantra at Speedworks PJ recently. Just like my other rides..I dyno it here.With dyno report in hand, I will know what is the horsepower before further modification is perform and will dyno again to check how much I have gain from the mod.

So, on this dyno I manage to get 126hp and torque 158 Nm only...sorry I cant release the dyno graph here...I encourage car owner to dyno their own ride. Manufacturer claim : 143hp and 186Nm for the Elantra 2.0A http://www.hyundai.com.my/v2/



My next mod...coming soon...the 4-1 stainless steal extractor. Let see if I can get another 16 horses from this modification.

Elantra X20 coolant replacement


Its already 30,300km and the car will be touching 2 years old soon...so its high time to have the coolant replace. Since I am free today, I had it done at KBSC Jln Ipoh. Not many people today...30 minutes all done up.

As above:

A- Radiator drain plug
B -Radiator cap
C- Radiator coolant

total cost : RM50.00

Accidental Upgrade!!!

Visiting Kaitenaz Motorsport turn out to be more than just window shopping!! Self have no intention to fixed anything but then when knowing its workshop was empty( no car)....all of the suddent...everything change!!! When the workshop is empty...its faster to have your car fitted with anything you wish..no waiting , no queue and save time.

Anyway here are some photos I shot during window shopping at Kaitenaz....

X-power... this stuff is suitable for coil on plug ignition system. It will enhance the ignition with out the need to change the stock coil. Many Honda Civic are using this.

Performance spark plug


Pivot ignition voltage stabilizer... give dramatic improvement in engine performance for optimum ignition to ideal combustion. I wish to fit it on the Matrix..has been aiming for this stuff for so long but in the end...


When you mod anything electrical...it has to be connected to the battery. Then the battery connector will be full...such as below on a Honda Civic...

A- Fuse for ICE
B- Guang Dao Turbo
C- Pivot Spark Earth
D- Fuse for Photoconductor 3-1

As compare to my battery terminal...almost naked!!

This are the upgrades....Photoconductor 3-1...its connected to the +ve terminal of the alternator and to the +ve terminal on the battery. Comes with 3 grounding wires. Heard many reviews from friends plus we did a dyno on this cable...easily 3 hp in hand.


Final installation..


Pivot ignition voltage stabilizer .... the black cable on the left is qmax.


After all the instalation my battery terminal looks no different


The verdict:

1. Engine noise has further reduced..I think its the work of Pivot ignition voltage stabilizer with Pivot spark earth.
2. Pick up has improved...160km/hr is a breeze!!! The combination between photoconductor, qmax and guang dao hi-auto...awesome!
3. Engine is super smooth..

Good stuff - update

The installation work continue from previous http://ritzzuan.blogspot.com/2009/12/good-stuff.html.
The current layout as below. Better to have the small tail lamp replace.

In order to removed the small tail lamp which is bolted on the rear bonnet, you have to removed the 4 nuts with box spanner size 8mm.

Then with a slight push from the rear, the small tail lamp can be pull out easily.


Once removed..a hollow section as seen below.


The diferrences between the old and new small tail lamp...


Installation of the new tail lamp have to be very carefull no doubt its plug n play. There are still minor push and press before you finally screw in the 4 bolts. There will be also additional wiring, the green white cable connect to the number plate and the green cable is connected to teh brake light. I have secure the joint with a cable tie.

As compare with the standard tail lamp....
