New sport rims for my Hyundai Elantra X20

The road and surrounding areas are not being properly maintained, my tires and rims are taking lots of beating. This year alone, I think 3 times I have to tyre change tyre and with 18inch rims...it's also lighten my wallet.

And the final straw came after the rear tyre punctured, I found a nail and a broken a glass ... the tyre is totally condemned. The other rear tyre also suffer with inner wear maybe due to negative camber.

I wanted a good set of sports rims, not for racing just to get me from point A-B and strong to withstand the poor road condition. My regular tyre shop recommend an old design rims but good and strong match with a 215/45/17 rubber.

I had a good offer...new 17inch rim complete with new rubber, new lugs nuts for each tyre , new metal air valve , alignment and balancing ...RM1,600.

New sets of tyre and sports rims

I wanna settle for a 17" rim but settle for an 18" instead...why coz the offer was good!

However instead of going for the free tyres, I upgrade the package with Yokohama S-drive tyre...add an additional RM500.00.

It looks slightly broader than my old tires. The S-drive is 225/40/18, year 2011 and its made in Japan! No need to add any additional spacer ..it fits in very well.

I trade off all my old tyres and rims ( thats includes the heavy sports rim spare tyre) for RM1,000. On top of that they gave me free alignment,balancing and nitrogen gas to all tyres. New security lugs was additional cost.

Overall performance of the Yokohama S-drive was really superb. Either wet or dry surface, this tyre really stick on the road. However the tyre noise is slightly higher than the old tyre. More details here:

Hyundai Matrix tyre change

Finally the front tyre has to be change...badly bald even the tyre shop wont accept trade-in!! I like Hankok tyre but too bad they dont have for 15" rim..so I finally settle for Yokohama A-Drive. So happens the rear tyre is also using Yokohama for the past 1 year...it has served my well.

The tyre looks great, its date 24th weeks of year 2010 on its side wall. The shop charge me RM180.00 per tyre inclusive of alignment and balancing.

Now my Matrix looks great and will handle the road much much better.

My Elantra Front Tyre Change

After more than 30,000km the front tyre Goodyear NTC5 has thin down and also getting noisier too.

Measure with a coin...the wording " sen" can be seen on its tip. Wear down is above 50%

The new tyre...205/55ZR16

The boss say the tyre is quiet and its high performance tyre. He gave me 5 years warranty...wonderful!!..I think before 5 years is over..I will have to change to another brand new tyre.

Manage to trade off my old tyre and after lots and lots of negotiation....I paid RM570.00 for both tyre.
