The real stuff...the new center display on my Elantra.

The moment I have been waiting has finally over and Im very happy with the result!!

The volt meter read both battery and alternator voltage. The temp meter is connected to the amplifier and the VU meter is connected to the HU audio output. When you pump up the volume..then you will see the VU meter starts rocking!...thats what audio meter suppose to do it!

This single din audio meter fits in nicely below the single din player. For only RM75.00..its totally worth it!

Time to change..

Time passes...my ride will be 3 years old by next year..its getting old..really!.. the center player console need to be upgrade..to look better than before or better than those Hyundai Avante 2011!

Im never a 2 Din player fan.. Im more towards listening to songs. Earlier I plan to install a single din player with the layout as seen below

It took off quiet well, did the installation at Kklau Audio.

And it end up...

However Im still not happy...so I decided to edit with photoshop...looks good!

Hyundai Elantra X20 original HU

I always wanted to do it...see what's inside that big casing of the player. For 3 years the player has served me well but now I have to check and clear my doubt on what they have fitted inside it. The casing is about the same size as a 2 din player.

An old photo I snap of the rear view.. This player is only 34W.
Removing only 3 tiny screw and follow by the top cover...the drive is exposed!

The CD drive with flat cable connecting to the board. That orange color connector..I wonder what it is use for.

And thats all..a single board with some ic's and chip's.

I have an option....

To buy another DVD player with hdmi output will cause me about RM600.00 and if I opt for a bluray DVD player will set me back for about Rm1300- Rm1800 for a Sony bluray player. But bluray disc are not cheap.... a pirate copy will cost me Rm30 to Rm40 for a piece of bluray disc and if original easily cost Rm120.00. So the best option is using a converter as seen below

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I can still enjoy using ordinary DVD disc.

From component to Hdmi...picture quality seems to improved about 5%, less colour noise and audio quality is much better.

Once all are connected...it looks like this

Elantra engine oil at 12,000km

Being busy till I neglected my 10,000 km oil change. Thinking of doing it before Hari Raya then postponed it after Raya.. now already mid of October!!!!..should I blame the ipad...really that stuff make me feel like a couch potatoes.

Photobucket

The last oil change was on Feb 2010 and the current millage as of today..44,346 km!

However the engine oil..looks rather clean..thanks to Synthetic engine oil, X-1R engine oil additive and Trasco oil filter...anyway I proceed with the oil change...what the heck..oil change 2 times a year really save $$$...for more poison!

My Elantra X20 exhaust system upgrades!

I have to admit..the previous set-up was a disasters as shown below..on the right is sports silencer then follow by straight flow with built in reducer. The car don't produce much pick up and I have to accelerate harder. Worst it lost some torque whenever I drop my speed from 170km/hr then follow by acceleration..I have to give way to the rear car!

This set-up is ok for manual shift but not on automatic gearbox as its lack in back pressure.

So, I visited another exhaust shop at Danau Kota..F1 exhaust specialist. After much discussion..bla,bla,bla...the new set up was finalised.

2 pcs swirl flow bullet, this will create sufficient back pressure.

The cut-off section of the swirl bullet...

The old exhaust bellow and goose neck is too small only about 1.7inches as compare from the extractor which is 2 inches.

I replace with a new exhaust bellow and new stainless steal goose neck.

The old set-up was removed..but anyway I leave the std rear muffler. I plan to change it once I found a suitable and quite sports muffler..maybe a Remus!

The final set up...

The verdict.... I can feel allot of different both power and pick up...the joy of driving has return! The std rear muffler is giving more exhaust noise than before during acceleration and the air filter noise also has increase a little bit but its negligible.

My Elantra X20 rear trailing arm

The Elantra rear trailing arm is solid state and un-adjustable. No way to change the camber angle and the rear tyre will end up worn either inner outer section. Should I fitted bigger tyre and lower spring..the rear tyre alignment is almost impossible.

However with the help of some friends, manage to source the adjustable rear trailing arm from Mancado.com.sg. Many THM member fitted it...no more problem.

It can be dismantle as seen below...

Hyundai Matrix tyre change

Finally the front tyre has to be change...badly bald even the tyre shop wont accept trade-in!! I like Hankok tyre but too bad they dont have for 15" rim..so I finally settle for Yokohama A-Drive. So happens the rear tyre is also using Yokohama for the past 1 year...it has served my well.

The tyre looks great, its date 24th weeks of year 2010 on its side wall. The shop charge me RM180.00 per tyre inclusive of alignment and balancing.

Now my Matrix looks great and will handle the road much much better.

Get more information about the tyre here:
