Accidental Upgrade!!!

Visiting Kaitenaz Motorsport turn out to be more than just window shopping!! Self have no intention to fixed anything but then when knowing its workshop was empty( no car)....all of the suddent...everything change!!! When the workshop is empty...its faster to have your car fitted with anything you wish..no waiting , no queue and save time.

Anyway here are some photos I shot during window shopping at Kaitenaz....

X-power... this stuff is suitable for coil on plug ignition system. It will enhance the ignition with out the need to change the stock coil. Many Honda Civic are using this.

Performance spark plug

Pivot ignition voltage stabilizer... give dramatic improvement in engine performance for optimum ignition to ideal combustion. I wish to fit it on the Matrix..has been aiming for this stuff for so long but in the end...

When you mod anything electrical...it has to be connected to the battery. Then the battery connector will be full...such as below on a Honda Civic...

A- Fuse for ICE
B- Guang Dao Turbo
C- Pivot Spark Earth
D- Fuse for Photoconductor 3-1

As compare to my battery terminal...almost naked!!

This are the upgrades....Photoconductor 3-1...its connected to the +ve terminal of the alternator and to the +ve terminal on the battery. Comes with 3 grounding wires. Heard many reviews from friends plus we did a dyno on this cable...easily 3 hp in hand.

Final installation..

Pivot ignition voltage stabilizer .... the black cable on the left is qmax.

After all the instalation my battery terminal looks no different

The verdict:

1. Engine noise has further reduced..I think its the work of Pivot ignition voltage stabilizer with Pivot spark earth.
2. Pick up has improved...160km/hr is a breeze!!! The combination between photoconductor, qmax and guang dao hi-auto...awesome!
3. Engine is super smooth..

Good stuff - update

The installation work continue from previous http://ritzzuan.blogspot.com/2009/12/good-stuff.html.
The current layout as below. Better to have the small tail lamp replace.

In order to removed the small tail lamp which is bolted on the rear bonnet, you have to removed the 4 nuts with box spanner size 8mm.

Then with a slight push from the rear, the small tail lamp can be pull out easily.

Once removed..a hollow section as seen below.

The diferrences between the old and new small tail lamp...

Installation of the new tail lamp have to be very carefull no doubt its plug n play. There are still minor push and press before you finally screw in the 4 bolts. There will be also additional wiring, the green white cable connect to the number plate and the green cable is connected to teh brake light. I have secure the joint with a cable tie.

The final look

As compare with the standard tail lamp....

I thank you to Sugaring in helping me and David for his advice. The DIY was a success.

The Thermostat...

The thermostat's job is relatively simple, but extremely important. It regulates the engine's operating temperature. It does this by restricting the flow of coolant from the engine back to the radiator. The thermostat is usually located in a housing where the upper radiator hose is connected to the engine. The thermostat is a valve that is held shut by spring tension. A wax filled thermal element in the thermostat opens the valve. As the engine begins to warm up and the coolant gets hot, the wax inside the sealed element expands and pushes the thermostat valve open. This occurs at a preset temperature (typically 195 degrees F. or so), which is usually stamped on the thermostat itself. The thermostat should be fully open about 20 degrees F. above the rated temperature.

The opening of the thermostat allows coolant to circulate through the engine and cooling system. As the temperature of the coolant begins to drop, the wax element cools off and contracts allowing the thermostat to partially or fully close. Thus, by cycling open and shut a relatively constant operating temperature is maintained.

Thermostat Failure

The thermostat is pretty simple and rarely causes problems, but when it fails the results can be disastrous. The worst case scenario is when the thermostat sticks shut, which can happen if the wax element has been damaged by previous overheating, corrosion or age. If it sticks shut, it will block the circulation of coolant between the engine and radiator causing the engine to overheat.

If the thermostat fails to close, which can happen if the sensing element binds up, the return spring breaks or a piece of rust or debris jams it open, the constant flow of coolant through the thermostat will prevent the engine from reaching normal operating temperature. This can cause poor driveability in cold weather, a sharp increase in fuel consumption, little or no heater output, and accelerated blowby and ring and cylinder wear.

Thermostat Checks

To check the thermostat, remove the radiator cap and start the engine while it is cold. Looking inside the radiator, you should see no movement of coolant. If you see movement, the thermostat is stuck open or is missing and repairs are required.

After the engine has run for five minutes or so, the upper radiator hose should start to feel hot signaling that the thermostat has opened and the coolant is now circulating through the system. Inside the radiator, you should also see coolant movement. If there is no movement (and the engine starts to overheat), the thermostat is defective and needs to be replaced.

A suspicious thermostat can also be tested by removing it from the engine and dropping it into a bucket of near boiling water. It should be closed when cold, then open once it hits the hot water, then close again after its been removed and allowed to cool. You can use a thermometer to check the exact opening and closing temperature.

I like these but....

I found them sold at Batu Feringgi night market.. it looks very nice till I really crazy by secretly take a few snap shots. It cost between RM50-RM60 per set..if you bargain hard may get lower price.

The question is...where to place in the house...it will collect dust and in the end..I did not buy any!!

Good stuff!!

It arrived in a big box but weight approximately 3kg!

Inside the box contains....

The old and new!!!

I manage to DIY the big tail lamp, as for the smaller lamp...I need the expert to install as there is additional wiring...

Current set -up..

Matrix service day

I have planned to spend to whole evening to have the Matrix service at E-kar Jln 222. You see..everything was place at the back seat...the ATF fluid for the power steering, petrol filter, spark plug and brake pad.

However...the whole plan change once I reach E-kar...as there were too many people. Waited for 2 hours then only my turn...anyway its not E-kar's fault..good business for them as they have many customer. I was then introduce to a Power steering oil flushing and renewal package. Cost RM120.00...hmmm...sound good..so I give it a try.

The product is from Wynn's, come with a flusher and 1L power steering oil. Replacement of power steering oil is at every 30,000km or 1 year...anyway before I use Wynn's product, I have practice to change the power steering oil every year without fail.

After flushing..the power steering resevoir was very clean...I can even see the oil level

A total of 1L oil is use in the process. Now steering also feels good and furthermore I notice zero noise on the power steering pump.

Since the Matrix already 5 years old and this is the 1st time its disc brake pad will have to be replace. No skimming was carried out on the disc rotor. Old brake pad look evenly worn down.

The old brake pad has only a single groove compare to the new pad has 2 groove, this provide faster cooling.

By 6pm they only manage to conduct only 2 out of 4 work task. I will have to pay for another visit..but I plan to do it next year. This time I will bring my notebook as E-kar already install Wifi.
