Pirates hijack Malaysian oil tanker

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian shipping firm MISC Bhd had established communications with its hijacked tanker on Thursday and were informed of a "casualty" onboard. In a statement released yesterday, MISC said communications with the MT Bunga Melati Dua chemical/palm oil tanker had been established at 5.05pm Malaysian time.It said the company had been informed that there was one casualty among the vessel's Filipino crew during the boarding of the vessel by hijackers, but did not elaborate.

This is the first time a Malaysia flag vessel been hijack. Through out my sea going career,I have experince priate attacks off coast Singapore and while in anchorage Bangladesh. Both incident really put me in the shiver coz we dont carry any arms onboard and these pirates are arms with guns and knife. It very easy to board a vessel that is fully loaded with cargo as the vessel draft are low.

I hope the casualty is not real..or else it brings grieve to the victim's family. They go to the sea to earn a living for their family back home...lets pray that this incident ends soon and all the crew are safe.
